Last night was my first opportunity to check out the Dulcimer Folk Association at the Sounding Board in West Hartford. Each performer came up would play 2-3 songs each.
While I do have to admit, watching some of the performers was like sitting through an elementary school music class. One performer stuck out from the rest of the group, Esther Golton. Esther, moving back to New Haven, Ct after 15 years living in Alaska plays music for a living. Playing two songs from her latest CD entitled “Stay Warm” displayed her talents playing the mountain dulcimer as well as a beautiful vocal style.
Esther’s style is a tad different on CD than a solo live performance. She has more of a contemporary folk sound backed by full band on album while she does play the mountain dulcimer also plays the flute.
